Youth In Harmony

We are trying to raise the levels of
awareness, enthusiasm, participation and quality
in singing for young people in our local area.

 

I.       Vision: An active group of young people in our area that enjoys singing and performing of any format, but especially a cappella and barbershop type singing.

A.  Outreach type program that, in addition to improving our area youth’s singing, music and performing skills, will improve:

1.       Their understanding of the value of teamwork.

2.       Their understanding of the value of hard work to achieve goals.

3.       Their self-confidence.

4.       Their public speaking and public presentation skills.

B.     Program leadership and coordination by the St. Marys Barbershop Chapter, but program a joint effort through support and perhaps assistance from:

1.       Local High School Choir Directors.

2.       Other adult leadership (i.e. other local Choir Directors, vocal teachers, etc.).

3.       District Barbershop and International Barbershop Society leaders.

4.       Local corporate sponsor(s).

II.    Goals / Objectives:

A.     Significantly increase the number of youth participating in singing in our area:

1.       Five young men actively participating in barbershop chapter(s)

2.       Increase in youth participating in local high school choirs.

3.       Increase in youth participating in other local choirs and singing groups.

B.     Significantly improve the singing quality of our local young men and women:

1.       Provide local, district and national talent for training opportunities:

a)   6 young people to attend Harmony Explosion Music Camp!

(1)  "An opportunity for students, male and female, and their teachers to experience four-part a cappella harmony in various educational settings including: classes, rehearsals, and performances."
(2)  Held annually in upstate New York.
(3)  All expenses / travel will be provided by the St. Marys Barbershop Chapter.

2.       Increase the number of youth qualifying for District, Region, State Choir.

C.     An active performing Youth in Harmony group (possible venues):

1.       St. Marys Barbershop Chapter Annual Shows.

2.       Other local choir concerts.

3.       Local high school choir and seasonal music concerts.

4.       Local high school D.A.R.E. programs, other school assemblies and events.

5.       Local community sing out opportunities:

a)        Fairs, festivals, sports events, etc.

b)        Service Club meetings.

c)        Youth Group meetings.
